Hierochloe odorata

Sweet Grass, also known as ‘Vanilla Grass,’ is an aromatic, cool-season perennial that typically grows between 10 to 24 inches tall and spreads about 2 feet per year through underground rhizomes. This aggressively spreading grass thrives in moist locations, such as riverbanks. The leaves emit a pleasant vanilla-like scent and have been used for various purposes, including incense in spiritual and religious ceremonies, personal perfume, and as materials for braided necklaces and bracelets, which are worn as amulets to protect against illness and injury. Shelter for bees, butterflies, moths, and other pollinators
